چکیده

Consider the p–system describing the subsonic flow of a fluid in a pipe with section a = a(x). We prove that the resulting Cauchy problem generates a Lipschitz semigroup, provided the total variation of the initial datum and the oscillation of a are small. An explicit estimate on the bound of the total variation of a is provided, showing that at lower fluid speeds, higher total variations of a are acceptable. An example shows that the bound on TV(a) is mandatory, for otherwise the total variation of the solution may grow arbitrarily. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 35L65, 76N10.

Modeling of Manufacturing of Field-Effect Heterotransistors without P-n-junctions to Optimize Decreasing their Dimensions

It has been recently shown that manufacturing p-n-junctions, field-effect and bipolar transistors, thyristors in a multilayer structure by diffusion or ion implantation with the optimization of dopant and/or radiation defects leads to increase the sharpness of p-n-junctions (both single p-n-junctions and p-n-junctions framework their system). Due to the optimization, one can also obtain increas...

Consider the p-system describing the subsonic flow of a fluid in a pipe with section a = a(x). We analyze the mathematical problem related to a junction, i.e., a sharp discontinuity in the pipe’s geometry, we consider the case of a picewise constant pipe’s section and then, the smooth case. In particular, through a limit procedure, we prove the well posedness of the smooth case from the discont...

The CFD Provides Data for Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy to Model the Heat Transfer in Flat and Discontinuous Fins

In the present study, Adaptive Neuro–Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) approach was applied for predicting the heat transfer and air flow pressure drop on flat and discontinuous fins. The heat transfer and friction characteristics were experimentally investigated in four flat and discontinuous fins with different geometric parameters including; fin length (r), fin interruption (s), fin pitch (p), ...

Editorial Lymphangiogenesis A

At the level of the capillaries, the systemic circulation loses 2 to 4 L fluid and 100 g protein into the interstitium daily. This ultrafiltrate of the systemic capillaries is returned to the circulatory system by the lymphatics. The lymphatic vasculature is highly specialized to perform this service, beginning with the blind-ended lymphatic capillaries. These vessels are highly permeable to pr...

In vivo assembly of tight junctions in fetal rat liver

Examination of glutaraldehyde-fixed, freeze-fractured livers from 14-15-day rat fetuses provided the basis for the following observations. Membrane particles align in otherwise poorly particulated areas of the presumptive pericanalicular plasma membrane (A face), frequently forming a discontinuous "honey-comb" network joining small particle islands. Even at this early stage, contiguous B-fractu...
